Education

1998 - present University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK

MPhil /PhD in Biomedical Engineering: An artificial finger to simulate blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate. A university sponsored research programmed in association with the in Center for Advance Health Care Technology, a simulation and research program with the aim to develop a complete system simulating various clinical conditions.

1997 - 1998 University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK

BEng Hons in Communication Systems, 2.1

Subjects studied: Data communications, Telecommunications, Microwaves.

Dissertation: Nonlinear Effect of DS-CDMA in optical transmission. The aim of this project was to address the problem of Laser diodes Nonlinearity in CDMA networks. A third-order polynomial without memory was used to present LD Nonlinearity.

1993 - 1996 Higher Technical Institute, Nicosia, Cyprus

HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

1990 - 1993 Kykkos B, Lyceum, Nicosia, Cyprus

Research and Scholarly Activity

My research interests concern the simulation of optical density changes in the finger, for simulated operation of standard Pulse Oximeters. The proposed program of research is to investigate a design method for simulating the fluctuating and differential absorption of two wavelengths of light, with the aim of enabling any type of pulse oximeter to be attached to a single artificial finger and to give a viable indication of a simulated blood oxygen level. My plans for future research will be influenced by the ideas and opportunities which present themselves at my future university, but my intention is to continue exploring the simulation.
