CYPRUS CHAMPIONSHIP 2004-05

Game 1 vs Apollon

(16th October) Another title for this fantastic team. They won the 2004 CYPRUS SUPER CUP. This was the 20th title for the team since 1994. They had an easy night against ETHA Engomis, in Eleutheria Stadium in Nicosia, were they won 61 - 37.
This was the first game of the season and the team naturally did not have a very good first half. In these first stages of the game the team was nervous missed some easy shots but played good defence. In the second half things changed and the team with clear mind turned the game around. In the third quarter with excellent defence (ETHA only scored four points) the team made more fast-breaks which help to score easy points. In the fourth quarter the coach Mr. Yiannaras had the chance to use the young members of the team (Pavlina, Chara & Antria) which they showed some very good basketball skills.
M.V.P of the game was voted Sylvia Charalampous. Stalo Phedonos also had a very good game. They each scored seventeen points and they helped the team in difficult stages of the game. Georgia Konstantinou and Yiota Adamou also had a very good night. Finally, we have to mention that all ten girls that played tonight help the team to win their 20th title.

(18th October) Notes after the game:

After another title (the 20th since 1993) the spirit in the team runs very high. This first game of the season showed some very useful conclusions. After the losses the team had with Vicky Dimosthenous (retiring), Pavlina Charalampidou (left for studying in UK), Julia Stylianidou (due to knee injury) and Georgia Sariyianni (went to Achilleas Kaimakliou) the team showed a different face. With younger and talented members added to the team, they look ready to move their game into a new level. The team found in the face of Despina Panayi a new point guard. Despina (16 years old) returned to the team that she started after two years (played for APOEL) and she looks more experienced and ready to help the team. Her quickness at both ends of the floor is one of her great assets. She knows what it takes to win and how to run a team. Georgia Konstantinou looks ready to make a difference with the experience gained from last season. She is a smart player that thinks pass first but does not hesitate to shoot the "3" and does so from way out and extreme accuracy. Chara Rousaki also showed that she can help the team from the position of a power forward. She is a very hard working girl with good basketball skills. Pavlina Tsiamourou is a seventeen year old girl, very strong hard working and ready to prove that she is ready to substitute Pavlina Charalampidou in the position of the center. Antria Pitsillidou showed that she is a very good defender and very fast.

In addition to these talented girls, we must not forget the older members of the team such as Monica Selipa, Georgia Nikolaou, Yiota Adamou, Sylvia Charalampous and Stalo Phedonos. These are the members of the old guard of Keravnos that won many titles for this team. In general we believe that the future is bright for Keravnos.
