Start: 8/26/99

END: 9/16/99

 

Start with one object that is in front of Lukas.  The object should be one that he has mastered in the object labels program. Next, add a second object.  Fade the obviousness of the object (ie, go from having him sit at the table with the object on the table) until you get to the point that you can walk around the room/house/outside and do “I see”.   Introduce it at the table then move it to a more naturalized setting.  Move to things like books, etc.  This can eventually be moved to games like I spy.

 

SD:  What do you see?

R:  I see (object)  or  I see (object) and (object)

 

Try to get Lukas to point to the object as he labels it rather than the tutor doing the pointing.

Interesting tutor notes

 

I think this shows how we harped on something that wasn’t needed and caused unneeded compliance issues. Look at our data- comments in red are my comments on our data and yes, hindsight is 20/20:

 

JG 8/26/99  Target 1   4/4  no prompts  (THIS WAS A FIRST TRIAL EVER!)

MM 8/27/99  TARGET 1  4/8   prompt: repeated directions    comments:  he wasn’t listening  (LOW REINFORCEMENT?)

EH  8/28/99 TARGET 1 5/5  comments: we looked outside the window  (ah.. he is interested isn’t he? OUT OF THE THERAPY ROOM! YES!)

8/29/99 CSC target 1 12/12  comments: I used flashcards, handed him to him and had him say “I see a…..”

8/30/99 JG target 1  6/8  prompts: statement-statement prompt or point prompt  comments: would either start visual stim or go limp… had to prompt.  (again.. is he bored?  He got it right the first day. Got it righ with two other tutors on two other days… this tells me this is a compliance issue.)

8/31/99 SH  Target 1: 2/2  Target 2: 2/2  Good job… went outside. Did while playing… (oh my gosh! This is totally about reinforcement)

9/2/99  JG  target 1 4/6   prompt: stood next to item.  Comment: repeated once then prompted.  (ookay.. Guess who is mad at JG and doesn’t want to perform for her?????)

9/4/99  SH  Target 1   3/3  Did outside.

9/7/99 AH   Target 1 3/3  pointed just fine.

9/9/99  JG   target 1 3/3  no voluntary pointing.

9/11/99  EH  target 1 2/2  prompted pointing by saying “what? Where? Where is it? I don’t see it?!!”

9/13/99 SH target 1 2/2  outside with I spy cards.

9/16/99 JG target 2  2/2 outside while on a walk. Super pointing (guess who is more reinforcing now?!)
