Okay… this is a program we should have just probed and then…. Let go. There was no need to waste time hitting it because Lukas didn’t have gender issues. (look at our pronoun program and you will see) However, some kids will have an awful time with this! You may have to start with VERY VERY VERY obvious girl boy pictures. Additionally, don’t worry about an 18 month old doing this. A three or four year old? Yes. The child should be able to make some basic attributes before starting. They should be able to discriminate what makes others different by lets say “size” (big, small))
Another option is to maybe do a matching exercise first if the child is having trouble in probes. Then move to receptive then move to expressive.

Sd1: Touch boy/girl (using pictures) R- Lukas touches the correct picture. If the child has a lot of trouble with this, start with a single picture on the table in mass trials.
Sd2: Boy or girl? R: it’s a boy.
Sd3: Ask him if a person not present is a boy/girl and he should say “he is a boy” or “she is a girl”
Tutor notes:
3/01 EH General language sample shows that this is fine across people, visuals, nonvisuals. In spontaneous speech, he does occasionally get it wrong but he immediately self corrects.
