This IEP ran us through August 1999 – August 2000. This involved a short summer session in 1999 and a full summer session in 2000. Lukas mastered ALMOST ALL of these IEP goals through 30-50hrs a week of ABA therapy (depending upon our schedules.) A few items ran over onto the next IEP but they were items that we added later in the school year when we ran out of things to do.
The one thing that amazes me
about this IEP was how the district responded when we had to call an IEP early
to add more goals and how they responded when we showed them that these goals
were indeed mastered. They never said
“gee, how amazing! How did you do that?!!!” They never attended a single workshop given
during this entire time. I felt like
they didn’t acknowledge that our team, our consultants, and ABA did this. Our consultants were cheering, our team of therapists felt proud , everyone talked about how Lukas had made
amazing advancements and yet, it was
as if ABA did not really exist. No one
from the district ever said, “wow. This ABA works.”
