A social gathering will follow the meeting for those attending.

Please note that both the meetings will be held abiding to the existing constitution requiring a quorum for the meetings to proceed. Your attendance is essential therefore make every effort to attend. If you are not able to attend please send your proxy to any of the committee members.

Amendments to the Association's Constitution

Our Constitution was drafted in 1979. Inescapably the changing requirements (whether these were social, legal, language etc) caused the need for it to be updated to reflect today's circumstances. In particular, the document has extensive outdated provisions and is written in archaic Greek. In order to address this issue, as well as the problem relating to the formation of a quorum at meetings, (which became a source of concern for a number of our members and raised at subsequent AGMs), a subcommittee was formed and with the active help of experts undertook the arduous task of revising our constitution.

The revised constitution has as such been modernized in terms of the language, elimination of arcane and not particularly useful provisions, and overall simplified to reflect perceived current needs.

The Committee will submit the amended constitution at the Extraordinary General Meeting and as such would like to bring to the attention of the members of the Association what it considers the major changes:

1. Failure to form a quorum at Annual General Meetings.

In the existing constitution, a quorum is formed at Annual General Meetings if more than twenty members are present. In case a quorum was not formed, the meeting was adjourned and a new meeting was called a week from the meeting. In the revised constitution this provision is amended so that a quorum is formed within thirty minutes of the calling of the Annual General Meeting with those present.

2. Failure to form a quorum at Extraordinary Meetings.

In the existing constitution failure to form a quorum at Extraordinary Meetings meant that the Meeting was dissolved, not postponed. In the amended constitution Annual General Meeting rules apply.

3. Expulsion of members.

The amended constitution includes a new clause, which provides for the expulsion of members of the Association. There is no such provision in the existing constitution.

4. Use of assets in case the Association is dissolved.

The revised constitution provides for the Association assets to pass on, in case of dissolution, to the English School. The existing constitution made more extensive provisions in this respect

A copy of the existing constitution was sent to you last year. Should you wish to have a copy of the existing and / or the revised constitution please contact the Secretary of the Association Ms Anita Ormiston at 99347702 or at the Clubhouse. The two documents are drafted in Greek due to the relevant legal requirements for submission to the proper authorities. The approved revised constitution will be translated in English.
